Nuscale Power equity experienced a substantial rally yesterday, climbing 7.6% to close at approximately $37.24. This significant upward movement was directly triggered by the unveiling of a landmark strategic partnership between the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and ENTRA1 Energy. Trading activity surged dramatically, with volume exploding beyond 20.6 million shares, indicating exceptionally strong market interest.

A Landmark Deal for Nuclear Capacity

The catalyst for this market activity is a historic agreement to develop up to 6 gigawatts of new nuclear power capacity. ENTRA1 Energy is slated to construct and operate six power generation facilities utilizing Nuscale’s innovative Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. The power output from these plants is intended for TVA under future power purchase agreements.

  • Capacity Target: Development of up to 6 GW of new nuclear generation
  • Core Technology: Deployment of Nuscale’s Small Modular Reactors
  • Estimated Output: Sufficient to power 4.5 million homes or 60 data centers
  • Market Impact: Represents the largest SMR initiative in U.S. history

This collaboration directly targets the soaring energy demands driven by artificial intelligence and data center expansion, while simultaneously bolstering national energy security.

Strategic Financing and Regulatory Leadership

Concurrent with this project announcement, Nuscale has bolstered its financial position. The company negotiated milestone-based payments from ENTRA1 Energy, which are contingent upon achieving specific project benchmarks and are valued between $35 million and $55 million. Furthermore, Nuscale established an at-the-market (ATM) equity program, providing the potential to raise up to $500 million through the sale of additional shares.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nuscale Power?

The company also maintains a formidable regulatory advantage. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission granted approval for the company’s second SMR design in May 2025. This achievement solidifies Nuscale’s unique position as the sole provider with multiple certified reactor designs, a critical differentiator in the competitive landscape.

Mixed Financial Results and Cautious Analyst Outlook

Despite the positive market reaction to the deal, questions regarding the company’s financial performance persist. Nuscale’s Q2 2025 earnings report, released on August 7, failed to meet analyst expectations. The company posted a loss of $0.13 per share, which fell short of projections, as did its revenue of $8.1 million.

The analyst community is maintaining a measured perspective following the recent news. UBS adjusted its price target upward to $38 but reaffirmed its Neutral rating on the stock. Similarly, BofA Securities initiated coverage with a Neutral rating and a $36 price target. The current spectrum of analyst price targets is wide, ranging from $14 to $53, highlighting the significant uncertainties inherent in this emerging industry.

The central challenge facing this SMR pioneer remains bridging the gap between its ambitious, large-scale projects and its current financial performance. The market now watches to see if Nuscale can successfully convert these strategic opportunities into tangible financial success.
