Shares of combustion technology specialist ClearSign Combustion Corporation captured significant attention with a powerful surge on Friday. This upward move, emerging after a period of subdued performance, appears driven by a recent influx of positive corporate developments. The critical question for investors is whether this robust advance signals a durable reversal for a stock that has experienced a challenging year.

Strategic Wins and a Burgeoning Order Book

The recent price appreciation is firmly grounded in concrete business progress. ClearSign has secured a substantial test order for a 100% hydrogen-capable burner from a major petrochemical client, highlighting the increasing demand for its low-emission technologies. Potentially more significant is a separate engineering contract for the installation of 36 ClearSign Core™ burners at a large refinery on the U.S. Gulf Coast. This multi-phase project, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, not only marks a strategic entry into the lucrative refinery market but also provides valuable long-term revenue visibility. Further bolstering the company’s prospects is a strategic partnership with SoCalGas, focused on the development of ultra-low-NOx burners powered by hydrogen.

High Volatility Amid Bullish Signals

From a technical analysis perspective, the stock remains in a state of high volatility. A recent buy signal from the 3-month MACD indicator suggests a potential bullish turn, a view supported by a notable increase in trading volumes that points to growing buyer interest. However, this optimism is tempered by a sell signal generated by a pivot point indicator the previous Monday, which preceded several days of losses. The stock’s classification as high-risk is underscored by its wide trading range; on Friday alone, it swung more than 10% between its daily low and high. For the bullish case to hold, the share price must defend nearby support levels at $0.715 and $0.682.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ClearSign Combustion?

Wall Street Sees Substantial Upside

Despite the inherent risks, the analytical community maintains a surprisingly optimistic outlook. The consensus rating among the four research firms covering the stock is a “Buy.” The median price target of $5.00 implies a potential upside of nearly 150% from current levels. While the range of estimates—from $2.00 to $6.00—reflects a degree of uncertainty, it also demonstrates a fundamental belief in the company’s long-term narrative.

This narrative is gaining support from improving financials. For the second quarter of 2025, ClearSign nearly tripled its revenue year-over-year, reaching $133,000. Although the company’s earnings per share forecast was missed, the operational performance is trending in a positive direction. Ongoing product development in hydrogen and sensor technologies continues to reinforce its long-term growth story. The fundamental groundwork for a sustained recovery appears to be falling into place.
