As technology behemoths like Microsoft and Meta aggressively expand their artificial intelligence capabilities, a crucial and often underappreciated beneficiary is emerging: Constellation Energy. The US-based power utility is strategically aligning itself as a primary energy supplier to the massive data centers required for AI, all while pursuing a transformative multi-billion dollar acquisition that promises to reshape the American energy landscape.

Strategic Positioning Fuels Long-Term Growth

Constellation Energy has successfully established itself as the preferred power partner for leading tech firms. The company has secured its financial future through long-term power purchase agreements with Microsoft and Meta, guaranteeing stable revenue streams and cementing its role as a fundamental enabler of the AI revolution. A key advantage is Constellation’s ability to supply these data centers with clean nuclear power—a critical factor for tech companies focused on improving their sustainability metrics. This unique strategic positioning is projected by analysts to deliver annual profit growth of 10% through 2028.

Pending Acquisition Set to Create Clean Energy Giant

In a parallel strategic move, Constellation is nearing the completion of its landmark $26.6 billion acquisition of Calpine. The deal, which has already received the necessary approvals from federal and state regulators, is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2025. This merger is poised to create the largest clean energy provider in the United States, combining Constellation’s substantial nuclear capacity with Calpine’s extensive portfolio of natural gas and geothermal power plants. The financial rationale is compelling: the acquisition is forecast to boost adjusted earnings per share by over 20% in 2026 and contribute at least $2 per share in subsequent years.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Constellation Energy?

Strong Financial Performance and Analyst Confidence

The company’s robust financial health was underscored by its quarterly results announced in August. Constellation reported a GAAP profit of $2.67 per share and reaffirmed its full-year guidance of $8.90 to $9.60 per share. This strong performance has generated significant enthusiasm among Wall Street analysts:

  • Melius Research initiated coverage with a “Strong Buy” rating and a $462 price target
  • BMO Capital raised its target to $375
  • Raymond James and KeyBanc both increased their price targets

The average price target of $337.82 suggests approximately 7% upside potential from current trading levels.

Despite some recent short-term volatility that saw shares decline about 3.5% over the past month, the long-term performance remains exceptionally strong. Constellation Energy shares have gained over 14% year-to-date and have advanced more than 54% over the past twelve months. The central question for investors remains whether the company can continue to leverage its unique position within the AI infrastructure boom to deliver sustained shareholder value.
