Amazon Bets Billions on India to Fuel Future Growth

After a challenging period for its shares, Amazon is signaling a renewed strategic offensive. The tech behemoth is capturing investor attention with a colossal capital commitment to the Indian market and fresh, bullish sentiment from Wall Street analysts. As rival Microsoft also escalates its investments in Asia, the central question emerges: Will this dual strategic thrust be enough to drive the anticipated turnaround by 2026?

A Strategic Countermove in a Key Market

In a major announcement this Wednesday, Amazon revealed plans to significantly expand its Asian footprint. The corporation intends to invest an additional $35 billion in India by 2030. This new capital infusion comes on top of the $40 billion the company has already deployed in the region.

The funds are earmarked for three primary areas:
* Enhancing infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services.
* Fortifying its logistics and delivery networks.
* Generating approximately one million new jobs.

Industry observers interpret this aggressive move as a direct counter to Microsoft, which recently publicized a $17.5 billion investment plan for the region. Amazon’s objective is to quadruple Indian exports through its platform to $80 billion by 2030 and to advance the digital transformation of 15 million small businesses. This strategy aims to secure long-term market share in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

Wall Street Sees Compelling Upside

The most immediate boost to market sentiment originated from investment bank Guggenheim. Analyst Steven Forbes initiated coverage of Amazon on Tuesday with a “Buy” recommendation, assigning a price target of $300. This projection suggests substantial potential appreciation from current levels.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Amazon?

The rationale from experts is forward-looking. While Amazon’s stock underperformed the broader market in 2025—reflected in its current price of €195.92 and an annual decline of roughly 8.7%—the valuation picture for 2026 appears increasingly attractive.

This thesis finds support from Evercore ISI. Following Amazon’s recent AWS conference, the research firm reaffirmed its “Outperform” rating and even raised its price target to $335. Its analysts forecast growth rates exceeding 20% for the AWS cloud division in 2026, driven by the availability of new Trainium-3 chips and the resolution of prior supply constraints.

Operational Momentum and Valuation Shift

Beyond long-term infrastructure projects, Amazon is beginning to monetize its AI capabilities in the near term. In the B2B sector, it has launched new AI-powered procurement tools for U.S. business clients, including the “Amazon Business Assistant.” These applications are designed to optimize corporate purchasing behavior and identify spending anomalies.

Key financial metrics indicate a transition from a consolidation phase to a potential acceleration. The price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio currently stands at approximately 32.2, notably below the 40 to 50 range seen in 2024. The consensus from recent analyst reports implies that Amazon could break out of its current trading range in 2026, provided the heavy investment costs are offset by the projected cloud growth.
