Investors in Barrick Gold are witnessing a sustained and powerful rally. The mining giant’s stock, having reached a fresh 52-week peak during Tuesday’s trading session, has delivered staggering returns of nearly 195% over the past year. This surge coincides with gold prices testing historic levels, prompting the market to evaluate whether strategic initiatives and robust financials can fuel further gains.

Robust Fundamentals Underpin Valuation

The company’s recent operational performance provides a solid foundation for its market valuation. For the third quarter of 2025, Barrick reported a year-over-year operational cash flow surge of 105%, reaching approximately $2.4 billion. Meanwhile, free cash flow expanded dramatically from $444 million to $1.5 billion. This substantial liquidity is directly benefiting shareholders through a 25% increase in the quarterly dividend and a share buyback program that repurchased $589 million worth of stock in the last quarter alone.

Beyond the core numbers, a strategic review is capturing investor attention. Management is exploring a potential initial public offering (IPO) for its North American gold assets, referred to internally as “NewCo.” This entity would encompass major operations, including its extensive Nevada mining portfolio. Analysts at Jefferies view such a spin-off favorably, suggesting it could unlock hidden value and create a more focused investment proposition. Barrick is also advancing its copper diversification strategy with major projects in Zambia and Pakistan, positioning itself to capitalize on global investments in electrical infrastructure.

Analyst Sentiment and Macroeconomic Drivers

The bullish momentum is receiving strong endorsement from Wall Street. In late November, Bank of America upgraded the stock to a “Buy” rating, raising its price target to $48.00. Similarly, BNP Paribas sees further upside, setting a target of $50.00. The consensus view among 22 covering analysts remains a “Buy,” with an average price target of $47.17, reflecting growing confidence in the miner’s growth profile.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Barrick Mining?

Macroeconomic conditions continue to serve as a primary catalyst. The gold price itself, approaching $4,420 per ounce, is the essential fuel for this rally. Geopolitical tensions in South America and persistent trade conflicts are driving safe-haven demand, while central banks globally persist in accumulating gold reserves.

Valuation and Forward-Looking Catalysts

Despite the significant share price appreciation, Barrick’s valuation does not appear stretched. With an expected price-to-earnings ratio of 12.84 for the current year, the stock still trades at a discount to the industry average. A substantial earnings growth of almost 80% is forecast for 2025.

The next key date for shareholders is February 11, 2026. Barrick is scheduled to release its full-year results and is expected to provide concrete updates regarding the review of the potential North American assets IPO. Should forecasts from Morgan Stanley materialize—which project a gold price of $4,800—the company’s profit margins are likely to expand further, offering a potential pathway for continued equity strength.
