Oracle is undertaking a significant modernization of its core software platforms to capture opportunities in artificial intelligence. The recent launch of Java 26 underscores this strategic shift, aiming to enhance productivity for enterprise developers. This technical evolution is supported by a formidable financial position, evidenced by a massive backlog of contracted business.

Robust Financials Underpin Innovation

The company’s latest technical announcements arrive on the heels of strong third-quarter 2026 financial results, released the prior week. The figures reveal substantial growth, particularly in cloud services:

  • Total revenue reached $17.2 billion, marking a 22% year-over-year increase.
  • Cloud revenue was a standout, climbing 44% to $8.9 billion.
  • Remaining Performance Obligations (RPO), representing future contracted revenue, stand at a colossal $553 billion.

This financial strength provides a solid foundation for Oracle’s ongoing investments in its developer ecosystem and AI integration.

Java 26: A Foundation for AI Development

At the JavaOne conference in California this Tuesday, Oracle unveiled the Java 26 update. The release introduces ten key enhancements, with a pronounced focus on artificial intelligence and cryptographic capabilities. The improvements are designed to allow developers to integrate complex, AI-driven applications into existing corporate IT environments more efficiently.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Oracle?

Complementing the core update is the new “Java Verified Portfolio,” which offers curated support for tools including JavaFX and Helidon. In a move addressing continued demand from enterprise and educational sectors for long-term software stability, Oracle has also extended support for JavaFX on legacy systems through March 2028.

Market Performance and Strategic Positioning

Despite the operational momentum, Oracle’s shares have faced recent pressure. The stock closed yesterday at €133.00, reflecting a decline of approximately 20% since the start of the year and trading below its 50-day moving average—a key technical level watched by market participants.

The strategic connection is clear. Oracle is directly linking its foundational software, through the AI-focused capabilities of Java 26, with its rapidly expanding cloud infrastructure business. The RPO figure of over half a trillion dollars demonstrates the secured, long-term demand for its cloud and infrastructure services. This positions the company to offer a comprehensive suite: the necessary infrastructure and the tailored developer tools required for modernizing corporate networks, all from a single provider.
