ASML Ushers in the Next Era of Semiconductor Manufacturing

While the broader semiconductor sector navigates market fluctuations, Dutch equipment giant ASML is making tangible progress on the next frontier of chipmaking. The company has achieved a critical milestone with the installation of its first High-NA EUV machine at the imec research center in Belgium, setting the stage for a new generation of more powerful and compact semiconductors.

A Foundational Machine for Ångstrom-Scale Chips

This installation represents a pivotal physical step in advancing chip production technology. The EXE:5200 system, a technological behemoth with a price tag of approximately $400 million, is considered essential for entering the so-called Ångstrom era. This next phase will enable the fabrication of logic chips with features smaller than 2 nanometers.

According to imec, the research institute hosting the machine, the system is slated to be fully qualified for industrial use by the fourth quarter of 2026. ASML’s CEO, Christophe Fouquet, characterized the installation as a decisive move to accelerate the development of advanced memory and computing capacity. The machine, one of only a handful in existence globally, is part of a five-year strategic partnership bolstered by European and national funding programs.

Financial Resilience Amid Sector Volatility

Beyond its technological prowess, ASML’s financial fundamentals provide a compelling case for its stability. The company concluded its 2025 fiscal year with a record order backlog of €46.5 billion. Management anticipates that roughly 65% of this substantial sum will be recognized as revenue within the coming twelve months.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Asml?

This massive financial buffer distinctly sets the lithography specialist apart from more cyclical players in the tech industry, serving as a fundamental safeguard. The market appears to recognize this robust position; ASML’s shares have demonstrated sustained upward momentum, posting a gain of 19.60% since the start of the year.

Sustained Demand Drivers and Mid-Term Outlook

The successful installation in Leuven reinforces the company’s medium-term strategic objectives. Based on its current order book, ASML projects net sales for the full year 2026 to land between €34 billion and €39 billion.

Ongoing expansion in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing continues to fuel relentless demand for ASML’s extreme ultraviolet lithography systems. These machines are indispensable for manufacturing the advanced chips that power modern AI applications, underpinning the company’s confident outlook.
