A newly disclosed multi-billion dollar partnership with OpenAI and aggressive infrastructure expansion are reshaping the growth trajectory for Amazon’s cloud division, prompting leading Wall Street banks to revise their outlooks for the tech giant. Market experts from Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase responded with significant price target increases on Wednesday, citing fundamentally improved prospects.

Wall Street Reacts with Upgraded Forecasts

The catalyst for the renewed optimism is a freshly reported seven-year agreement between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI, valued at approximately $38 billion. This deal solidifies AWS’s position as a primary provider of computing power for the prominent AI developer. In a related move, Citigroup raised its price target on Amazon shares from $265 to $285.

JPMorgan Chase went further, labeling the stock a “Best Idea” and projecting that AWS could achieve quarterly growth rates between 28% and 30% by 2026. The broader analyst sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with 65 out of 69 covering analysts currently recommending a “Buy.” Despite this, the shares are trading at €183.06, reflecting a modest year-to-date decline of 5.31%. However, new analyst targets—which extend as high as $315 from Tigress Financial—suggest substantial potential for recovery.

Strategic Partnerships Reshape Cloud Growth

Beyond the OpenAI contract, Amazon’s existing alliance with AI firm Anthropic is evolving into a major revenue driver. Estimates indicate this partnership alone could contribute around $18 billion to AWS’s top line in 2026. Collectively, these collaborations are fundamentally altering the growth path for the entire cloud division.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Amazon?

Concurrently, Amazon’s in-house semiconductor business is gaining rapid market share. Specialized AI and server chips, such as the Trainium and Graviton series, now generate annual revenue exceeding $10 billion. This segment is currently experiencing triple-digit growth rates, reducing dependence on external hardware suppliers and significantly improving margins for AI applications.

Massive Capital Expenditure to Support Demand

To manage the anticipated surge in demand, Amazon’s management is planning record capital investments of $200 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. A central focus is the accelerated expansion of data center capacity, which is slated to double to approximately 24 gigawatts by the end of 2027.

Beyond its technology ventures, Amazon’s entertainment division also generated positive headlines on Wednesday. The film “Project Hail Mary” earned $80.5 million in its US debut, marking the strongest opening for the studio since its acquisition of MGM in 2022.

The combination of multi-billion dollar AI partnerships, unprecedented infrastructure investment, and a thriving content strategy underscores the conglomerate’s diversified strength. With major banks now raising their forecasts, the concrete revenue performance of the cloud division in the coming quarters will be under intense investor scrutiny.
