Alphabet is aggressively expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure through a multi-pronged strategy. Recent developments, including a deepened chip partnership, a new agreement with a leading AI startup, and a suite of product enhancements, underscore the company’s determined effort to solidify its competitive standing in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Financial Backing and Market Performance

Market experts are closely watching the company’s substantial capital expenditure plans. Estimates for Alphabet’s 2026 capex range from $175 billion to $185 billion, approximately double the $91.4 billion spent in 2025. On Tuesday, BNP Paribas analysts suggested that investor concerns over the scale of AI spending at Alphabet and Amazon were “overblown.” They pointed to internal metrics, such as revenue per employee and the ratio of order backlog to capex, indicating these tech giants are not over-investing relative to their operational capacity.

The company’s shares showed resilience in recent trading, closing at approximately $298.50 with a modest gain of 0.28%. The forward P/E ratio is currently positioned between 27 and 28. All eyes are now on the upcoming Q1 2026 earnings report scheduled for late April. Consensus estimates project earnings per share of $2.67 on revenue of about $100.76 billion. Despite a year-to-date decline of roughly 13%, the analyst consensus rating remains “Buy,” with price targets spanning from $274 to $345.

Core Partnerships: Hardware and Compute Power

A central component of Alphabet’s strategy is an expanded collaboration with Broadcom. This long-term agreement focuses on the joint development and supply of Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and specialized networking components for AI computing racks. The move is designed to stabilize the supply chain for Alphabet’s high-performance computing needs at a time when demand for generative AI continues to accelerate.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Alphabet?

In a related development, AI startup Anthropic has secured access to roughly 3.5 gigawatts of TPU computing power starting in 2027, utilizing the shared Google-Broadcom infrastructure. This arrangement builds upon an existing TPU deal from 2025 and highlights the escalating computational requirements for operating advanced models like Anthropic’s Claude.

Innovation in Products and Efficiency

Alongside these hardware initiatives, Google unveiled several technical updates. A new dictation app for iOS, “Google AI Edge Eloquent,” leverages on-device, offline processing. The Gemini AI system received upgrades to its responses on mental health topics, and the video generation tool “Veo 3.1 Lite” was released as a more cost-effective developer variant.

Complementing these product launches, Google presented research on “TurboQuant,” a technique aimed at reducing the memory footprint for large language model inference by more than sixfold without compromising accuracy. This focus on efficiency research is a critical part of the broader effort to make advanced AI more scalable and accessible.
