Hensoldt’s Mixed Signals: Insider Confidence and Analyst Doubt Collide Ahead of Earnings

The defense electronics group Hensoldt is navigating a period of contrasting forces as it approaches its half-year report on July 31. The stock has rebounded roughly 20% from its 52-week low of €63.12 hit on June 26, yet remains about 34% below the October 2025 peak of €115.10. With the company trading at around €75–€76 in recent sessions, the tension between operational momentum and sector headwinds has split both analysts and major investors.

Inside the executive suite, management has placed a conspicuous bet on the company’s recovery. Chief Executive Oliver Dörre snapped up Hensoldt shares worth roughly €172,250 across several transactions in late June, while Chief Financial Officer Inka Tews added about €20,000 of her own capital. Both purchases occurred near the stock’s yearly trough, a move often interpreted as a signal of confidence in the underlying business. The timing also coincided with the company’s decision in early June to raise its guidance for adjusted free cash flow—now expected to convert at around 50% of adjusted EBITDA, up from 40%—while reaffirming its net leverage target.

On the shareholder side, BlackRock has quietly adjusted its exposure. The asset manager’s overall stake in Hensoldt held steady at 4.99%, but the proportion of direct voting rights climbed from 2.75% to 3.13% as of July 15. The shift, disclosed on July 20, is seen as a move toward greater direct influence rather than a change in total conviction. Just days earlier, Hensoldt announced a strategic minority investment in defense-tech startup “Project Q,” aiming to deepen cooperation on software-centric warfare and multi-domain integration—a move that aligns with broader NATO spending trends.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hensoldt?

Yet not all developments have been favorable. The German Defense Ministry’s decision in late June to cancel the F126 frigate program in favor of MEKO A-200 vessels struck a blow to Hensoldt’s radar-supplier role. The company is still assessing the impact on its order book, while also ramping up a new logistics center in Wolfhagen for the Bundeswehr’s ZEBEL project, due to begin operations in September. Meanwhile, analyst opinions have diverged sharply. In early July, Jefferies lifted its price target to €94 from €90 and maintained a “Buy” rating, citing Hensoldt’s strong positioning in defense electronics. But on July 9, MWB Research downgraded the stock from “Hold” to “Sell” with a €62 target, flagging valuation risks and potential order headwinds following the NATO summit.

Operationally, the company has delivered a string of positive signals. Besides the cash-flow upgrade, the annual general meeting in late May approved a dividend of €0.55 per share for 2025, a 10% increase from the prior year’s €0.50. The first-quarter update in early May confirmed the full-year outlook, setting the stage for the half-year report. All eyes are now on the July 31 release, which will reveal how much of the higher cash-flow conversion has materialized and whether the F126 setback has dented the order pipeline.

Technically, the stock is hovering near its 50-day moving average, having recovered from the June low. The upcoming earnings call will test whether management’s insider purchases, BlackRock’s structural shift, and Jefferies’ upgraded target can outweigh the bearish case from MWB and the uncertainty from the F126 cancellation. For now, Hensoldt remains a tale of two narratives—one of operational improvement and management faith, the other of sector headwinds and valuation debate.
