Investors in A O Smith are bracing for a significant week as the company prepares to release its quarterly financial results. The upcoming report arrives alongside the announcement of yet another dividend increase, highlighting the firm’s commitment to shareholder returns.

Quarterly Figures Take Center Stage

All eyes are on Tuesday, October 28, when A O Smith will disclose its third-quarter 2025 performance before markets open. Market expectations are firmly established:

  • Earnings Per Share (EPS): $0.89 anticipated
  • Revenue: $946.32 million projected

The company faces a high bar, having substantially exceeded forecasts last quarter. In Q2, A O Smith reported EPS of $1.07 against expectations of $0.97, while revenue reached $1.01 billion, surpassing the $997.89 million forecast despite a 1.3% year-over-year decline.

Dividend Growth Streak Continues

Demonstrating financial strength, A O Smith has raised its quarterly dividend by 6% to $0.36 per share. This marks the 33rd consecutive year of dividend increases—an impressive record of consistent shareholder rewards. The dividend will be distributed on November 17 to shareholders of record as of October 31.

This brings the annualized dividend to $1.44 per share, representing a current yield of 2.1%. Importantly, the payout ratio remains manageable at 37.88%. Analysts project this ratio could decline to approximately 32% next year as earnings per share are forecast to grow by 32.5%.

Mixed Signals from Market Experts

Research firms present divergent views on the company’s prospects. While the consensus rating stands at “Hold,” price targets show considerable variation:

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying A O Smith?

  • Stifel: “Strong Buy” rating with $89 target
  • Oppenheimer: Increased price target to $88
  • UBS: Raised target price to $76
  • JPMorgan: “Neutral” stance with $70 target

The spread in analyst projections, ranging from $77 to $80.10, reflects differing assessments of the company’s growth potential.

Strategic Positioning and Operational Challenges

A O Smith has strengthened its leadership team with recent executive appointments. Paul J. Jones assumed the role of Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer on October 1. Chris Howe joined as Chief Digital Information Officer on October 3, tasked with accelerating the company’s cloud and artificial intelligence transformation.

Operationally, the company navigates several challenges:

  • China Operations: A strategic review of Chinese business continues amid projected local currency revenue declines of 5-8%
  • North American Performance: Mixed results with water heater sales down 2% but boiler sales growing 6%
  • Revenue Outlook: Full-year 2025 expectations have been modestly revised upward by 0.46%

Technical Indicators Show Strength

Chart analysis reveals bullish signals for A O Smith shares. The 50-day moving average of $71.92 sits comfortably above the 200-day average of $68.59. Trading within its 52-week range of $58.83 to $80.26, the stock exhibits positive momentum.

The critical question remains whether Tuesday’s earnings release will validate this upward trend. Market participants await the answer as A O Smith approaches this decisive moment.
