Chinese automotive conglomerate Geely is executing an ambitious international expansion through a novel distribution model. The company is launching six of its brands simultaneously in New Zealand under a single distribution entity, marking a global first for the automotive group.

This consolidated approach is being implemented by NordEast Distributors, a newly established division of the Giltrap Group. The strategy brings together Geely’s portfolio of established marques including Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, alongside its proprietary automotive brands and commercial vehicle divisions Farizon and Zeekr. This unified market entry leverages significant economies of scale across the entire model range while creating synergistic distribution channels.

The expansion comes as Geely demonstrates substantial growth in electrified vehicles. Global sales figures for the first half of 2025 reached 1.9 million vehicles, with more than one million units consisting of New Energy Vehicles. This represents a remarkable 73 percent increase compared to the same period last year, underscoring the success of the company’s electrification strategy.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Geely?

Comprehensive Model Portfolio Targets Diverse Market Segments

Geely’s New Zealand offensive features a strategically diverse vehicle lineup designed to address varying consumer needs:

  • EX5 SUV: Already introduced during a soft launch phase
  • Riddara RD6 Pro: All-electric utility vehicle featuring a 73kWh battery, 315kW power output, and 360km WLTP range, available from September
  • Geely Starray: Plug-in hybrid SUV targeting the competitive hybrid segment
  • Zeekr Premium Models: Four distinct vehicles including the Zeekr X, 009 MPV, and Zeekr 7X
  • Farizon Commercial Vehicles: Large vans in multiple lengths and the complete SuperVAN series

While electrification remains central to Geely’s strategy, the company’s New Zealand offering covers the full spectrum of propulsion technologies from hybrid and plug-in hybrid to fully electric vehicles. This multi-faceted approach addresses diverse customer requirements while strengthening Geely’s position in the global automotive market.
