Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng is executing an ambitious three-part growth strategy that spans conventional automotive markets and futuristic transportation. The company is making significant moves across Europe, expanding its product lineup with hybrid technology, and achieving remarkable success with its flying car subsidiary.

European Manufacturing Breakthrough

A pivotal development for XPeng’s international expansion has materialized with the commencement of local production at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria. The initial models rolling off the assembly line include the G6 and G9 vehicles, marking a strategic maneuver to circumvent substantial EU tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. This manufacturing partnership with Magna represents a long-term commitment to the European market, with plans to introduce additional models in the future.

Diversification Into Hybrid Technology

In a strategic pivot, XPeng is now targeting the hybrid vehicle segment with range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) versions of several models. The automaker has registered EREV variants for both the G6 SUV and P7+ sedan, addressing consumer demand for electric driving benefits combined with the flexibility of gasoline-powered range extension.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng (A) (A)?

Technical specifications reveal XPeng will utilize a 1.5-liter engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine as the range extender. While lithium iron phosphate batteries from Eve Energy have been confirmed for the G6 EREV, the exact battery capacity remains undisclosed. The G7 EREV variant will feature a 55.8 kWh battery pack.

Flying Vehicle Division Soars With Major Order

While expanding its ground vehicle operations, XPeng’s aerial mobility division—newly branded as Aridge—has secured a landmark agreement. Following its first manned public flight demonstration in Dubai, the subsidiary announced a massive 600-unit order for its “Land Aircraft Carrier” from a Gulf state consortium. This substantial commitment has propelled global pre-orders beyond 7,000 units, establishing an industry record within the flying car sector.

This comprehensive approach positions XPeng for potential global ascendancy: European local production eliminates tariff barriers, hybrid models access untapped customer segments, and the flying vehicle division continues to pioneer future transportation technologies.
