RWE Outlines Progressive Dividend Strategy Through 2031

Ahead of its upcoming Annual General Meeting, German energy giant RWE has provided detailed financial guidance for the coming years, with a clear focus on rewarding shareholders. The company’s roadmap confirms its dividend for 2025 and outlines a structured plan for consistent increases extending through the end of the decade.

A Decade of Planned Growth

The cornerstone of this policy is a proposed annual dividend of €1.20 per share for the 2025 financial year. This represents an increase of ten cents over the prior year’s payout. This proposal is grounded in a robust financial performance, with RWE’s adjusted net income reaching €1.8 billion, hitting the upper end of its own forecast. Shareholder approval for this distribution is scheduled for the AGM on April 30, 2026.

Looking further ahead, the utility group intends to maintain this momentum. For 2026, a further raise to €1.32 per share is planned—marking another ten percent uplift. The strategy envisions annual dividend growth continuing at this pace through 2031. This shareholder return program runs concurrently with an ongoing share buyback initiative.

Ambitious Investment Fuels Returns

This confident dividend trajectory is supported by a substantial capital expenditure plan. RWE has committed to net investments totaling €35 billion by 2031, aimed at expanding its generation capacity to approximately 65 gigawatts. Strategic priorities include bolstering flexible capacity within Germany and growing its portfolio in the United States. Management expects this expansion to drive significant earnings growth, with adjusted net income per share projected to rise from €2.48 in 2025 to around €4.40 by 2031.

The company’s strategy is positioned to capitalize on powerful structural trends, namely rising global electricity demand fueled by widespread digitalization and industrial decarbonization efforts.

RWE’s shares currently trade near multi-year highs and have already surpassed the average analyst price target of €55.87. For investors with a shorter-term horizon, a key date is May 4, 2026, which marks the ex-dividend date for the 2025 payout.
