Amphenol’s CommScope Bet Is Outperforming — and the Order Book Proves It

The dust has settled on Amphenol’s 2-for-1 stock dividend, which hit shareholders’ accounts last Thursday. Yet for all the attention paid to the split mechanics, the more consequential development has been quietly building beneath the surface: the integration of CommScope’s connectivity and cable solutions business is running well ahead of internal expectations.

Management now projects the acquisition will contribute $4.6 billion to this year’s revenue, up from an earlier forecast of $4.1 billion. Perhaps more striking, what was once expected to be earnings dilution has flipped into an anticipated profit contribution of $0.30 per share — double the initial estimate. That revision speaks to a company that isn’t just growing organically but has demonstrated a knack for folding large acquisitions into its operations without missing a beat.

Record Orders Tell the Real Story

The operational numbers from the second quarter back up that thesis. Amphenol posted record revenue of $8.8 billion, up 55 percent year over year, with adjusted earnings per share of $1.35 — a 67 percent jump. Both figures landed above the top end of the company’s own guidance.

The communications solutions segment led the charge, expanding 85 percent, powered by the IT/datacom business that now accounts for 43 percent of group revenue and grew organically by 63 percent. Nearly all of the sequential growth came from AI-related products, reinforcing Amphenol’s position as a primary infrastructure beneficiary of the artificial intelligence buildout.

Perhaps the most telling data point: order intake hit a record $10.7 billion in the quarter, signaling demand from the datacom and AI segments remains robust. The company’s book-to-bill ratio — a key gauge of future revenue momentum — underscores that the AI spending cycle shows no immediate signs of tapering.

Guidance Points to Sustained Momentum

The outlook for the current quarter suggests the pace isn’t letting up. Amphenol expects third-quarter revenue between $9.3 billion and $9.4 billion, representing 50 to 52 percent growth over the prior-year period, with adjusted earnings per share of $1.40 to $1.42. Those are remarkable growth rates for a company of this market capitalization.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Amphenol?

Since the switch to split-adjusted trading, the stock has gained 1.5 percent, and over the past seven trading sessions it’s up 5.3 percent. Investors appear to be treating the technical adjustment not as a hurdle but as confirmation of the growth narrative. The shares closed Friday at €71.67, roughly 8.3 percent below the 52-week high of €78.13 reached in late June. The stock remains 2.3 percent above its 50-day moving average, suggesting the short-term uptrend is intact, though the recent consolidation phase hasn’t produced new highs.

Capital Discipline Amid an Acquisition Spree

What’s also notable is that Amphenol hasn’t neglected shareholders while digesting CommScope, along with the earlier acquisitions of El.Com and Wilder Technologies. During the second quarter alone, the company returned $515 million to investors — $208 million in share buybacks and $307 million in dividends. The board also confirmed a quarterly dividend of $0.25 per share, or $0.125 on a split-adjusted basis.

The flip side is a balance sheet that has become noticeably more leveraged from the dealmaking. As of June 30, total debt stood at roughly $18.81 billion against cash of $5.42 billion, putting net debt at about $13.39 billion. That’s not an alarm bell given the earnings power, but it does temper any narrative of an immaculate balance sheet.

The Next Test Arrives With Q3 Results

For now, the near-term catalysts — the split, earlier insider selling, and the raised guidance tied to the CommScope integration — have been worked through. The stock’s annualized volatility of 41 percent reflects how nervously the market is pricing in the growth trajectory, and the combination of elevated debt and an ambitious valuation leaves room for a pullback at any time.

The real proof point will come with third-quarter results, when investors see whether the company hits that $9.3 billion to $9.4 billion revenue range and whether the record order book translates into sustained growth. Given the upward revision on CommScope and an AI-driven core business growing faster than the overall company, the operational momentum suggests Amphenol is well positioned to extend its run — even if the market needs a breather first.
