Autonomous Driving Milestone: Pony AI Secures Key Singapore Approval

Pony AI has achieved a significant regulatory milestone, bringing its global expansion strategy into sharper focus. The company has received approval from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority to operate autonomous robotaxi services, a move that positions it for a commercial launch in Southeast Asia. This clearance represents the final testing phase before a full public rollout can commence.

Financial Ambitions Meet Market Scrutiny

Despite this operational progress, Pony AI’s shares face investor pressure. Market participants are primarily concerned with the substantial capital expenditures required to build a global fleet of autonomous vehicles. The scalability of its business model outside of its home Chinese market remains a critical factor for its long-term valuation.

Analysts are closely monitoring the company’s path to commercial profitability. Pony AI has set an ambitious target to expand its worldwide fleet to more than 3,000 units by the end of 2026. Whether this growth can be achieved without excessively straining its balance sheet is a subject of intense debate. The Singapore operation now serves as a crucial indicator of the company’s global competitiveness. Concrete data on revenue growth and cost management progress is anticipated in mid-May 2026, when Pony AI releases its next financial report.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Pony AI?

Strategic Partnership Drives Initial Deployment

The initial service will launch in Singapore’s Punggol district through a strategic alliance with partner ComfortDelGro. This collaboration, based on an agreement originally signed in July 2024, follows pilot tests conducted in Guangzhou in early 2025. The project is a core component of Pony AI’s “Dual-Engine” strategy, which aims to systematically transfer its technology and operational experience, validated in China, to international markets.

The service will operate on a 12-kilometer route connecting residential areas with central facilities. A key objective is to deliver a measurable time-saving benefit for users: the autonomous vehicles are projected to reduce travel time by up to 15 minutes compared to conventional public transport options.
