The BlackRock Greater Europe Investment Trust has ramped up its share repurchase program, signaling confidence in its valuation while addressing its discount to net asset value (NAV). On August 13, the trust bought back 20,422 shares at an average price of 571.10 pence per share, reducing its outstanding shares to 95,402,404. Treasury holdings now stand at 22,526,534 shares, representing 19.1% of total issued capital. This follows a similar buyback of 22,641 shares on August 12, underscoring a strategic effort to return excess capital to shareholders and stabilize the stock’s performance. The NAV per share currently ranges between 594.01 pence (excluding earnings) and 599.00 pence (including dividends), reflecting steady income generation.

Shrinking Float, Sharper Focus

With nearly a fifth of its shares held in treasury, the trust retains flexibility for future capital allocation. The ongoing repurchases aim to narrow the NAV discount—a common challenge for investment trusts—while reinforcing management’s belief in the portfolio’s resilience. Updated voting rights disclosures on August 14 confirmed 95,422,826 eligible shares, highlighting the dynamic adjustments to its capital structure. Focused on European equities outside the UK, the trust’s transparent NAV updates and buyback discipline position it as a proactive player in a volatile market.
