DroneShield’s European Ambitions Face Off Against an Unresolved ASIC Probe

The counter-drone specialist finds itself in an unusual position: expanding its operational footprint across Europe while its share price remains pinned near levels that suggest deep investor skepticism. A new software engine aimed squarely at the European market has done little to lift sentiment, even as the company points to a growing roster of partnerships and a successful deployment at a major sporting event.

A Product Pair Built for European Demand

DroneShield’s latest strategic move centers on the RfAI-3 engine, a software platform designed to identify, locate, and assess radio-frequency activity. Unveiled alongside the company’s half-year results, the engine is intended to work in tandem with the RfRecon hardware that was introduced roughly a month earlier. Bell Potter, the Australian broker, sees the pairing as a potential catalyst for new contract wins, with Europe singled out as the most promising theater.

The timing is no accident. DroneShield recently completed its first European production facility, a milestone that management says will shorten delivery times and improve responsiveness to orders. The new product duo gives the company something concrete to sell into that market, though no specific contracts have been announced for either product yet.

Recurring Revenue Gains Traction

The software-first approach aligns with a shift already visible in the company’s financials. Recurring revenue from software, subscriptions, and long-term service agreements accounted for 11.3 percent of total revenue in the first half. Products like RfAI-3, which emphasize software over pure hardware, could push that figure higher in coming periods — a point that may resonate with investors wary of the lumpy order flow typical of defense contracting.

Bell Potter trimmed its price target from A$2.50 to A$2.40 following the results but maintained its buy rating, citing the growth potential of the new product line in Europe.

Partnerships Multiply as Regulatory Cloud Lingers

Beyond the product launch, DroneShield has been busy broadening its alliance network. New memoranda of understanding have been signed with Intelic, Origin Robotics, Overland AI, Terma, Airspace Link, Parsons, and Defenture. The company is also part of a consortium alongside Anduril, COBS, and Nokia pursuing a European program under the RE-ARM-2030 initiative, with a preliminary decision expected in the second half of the year.

These partnerships are designed to diversify the business model and reduce reliance on individual contracts. A September software update, meanwhile, promises measurable gains in RF detection performance, tracking response, and operational readiness for systems already in the field.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

Yet none of this has resolved the question hanging over the company since its August results: the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s investigation into company disclosures and trading activities. Management has stated it is cooperating fully, but the potential consequences remain unspecified.

Market Math Tells a Harsh Story

The share price reaction to the half-year numbers was swift and severe, with roughly A$250 million wiped from market capitalization in a single session, according to media reports. The stock has only partially recovered since.

Friday’s close saw the shares gain 2.6 percent to EUR 1.07, still well below the 50-day average of EUR 1.28. The 30-day decline stands at 22 percent, while the year-to-date loss has widened to 41 percent. The distance from the 52-week high of EUR 3.79, reached on October 1, 2025, now measures 72 percent — a stark illustration of how dramatically sentiment has shifted over the past year.

At the same time, the stock trades roughly 30 percent above its 52-week low of EUR 0.8230, set as recently as November 21. The secondary source puts the 30-day decline at 23 percent and notes the stock sits 41 percent below its 200-day average, with an RSI of 39.5 indicating persistent weakness without reaching oversold territory.

World Cup Deployment Offers a Reference Point

One bright spot for the company’s credibility came from its work around the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In Kansas City, DroneShield supported security authorities across seven multi-site operations, logging 184 drone detections and intercepting 48 unauthorized drones. Such reference deployments could prove valuable in future security tenders.

The company has also been scaling its manufacturing base: a new 3,000-square-meter production facility came online earlier this year, alongside new ERP and sales systems, and June marked the first hardware production in Europe.

For now, investors face a bifurcated picture. Operationally, DroneShield is pushing into new partnerships, new production sites, and new software products. Financially, the unresolved ASIC investigation and the aftermath of a loss-making half-year continue to weigh on the stock. Until the regulator concludes its review, that uncertainty is likely to remain a central factor in how the market values the company.
