Evotec’s Boardroom Shuffle and New Oncology Alliance Do Little to Dislodge a Stock Stuck Near Its Floor

The contrast at Evotec could hardly be starker. On one side, the Hamburg-based biotech is signing research partnerships at a steady clip and talking up early wins from its cost-cutting drive. On the other, its share price is hovering barely above a decade low, the full-year guidance has been slashed, and now a member of the supervisory board has quietly headed for the exit.

Camilla Macapili Languille resigned her mandate on the supervisory board roughly a month ago, according to the company’s disclosures. She had held the seat since June 2022 and served on the Audit & Compliance Committee. The departure lands at a moment when the company is already deep in operational restructuring — and it raises the question of whether further changes to the control body are in store, though Evotec has not commented on any additional moves.

A Cancer Alliance Offers Only a Fleeting Lift

The shares did catch a bid in early September when Evotec unveiled a research collaboration with Plectonic, a biotech focused on T-cell-activating approaches against solid tumors. The stock climbed around 5 percent on the news — its first meaningful upward move in weeks. But the pop proved modest in scope: at €3.23, the shares remain well below their 50-day moving average of €3.78, a technical signal that the short-term trend has yet to turn despite the partnership announcement.

The Plectonic deal is the second strategic alliance Evotec has struck within a matter of weeks. In early August, the company announced a research collaboration with Odyssey Therapeutics targeting autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Odyssey is tapping into Evotec’s integrated, data-driven discovery platform, including its screening capabilities and AI-powered data sciences.

These partnerships are central to Evotec’s business model: the company rents out its research infrastructure to partners and generates revenue without shouldering the full development risk of individual drug candidates. Whether they will be enough to carry the company through its operational trough, however, remains an open question given the scale of the recent numbers.

The Numbers Tell a Bleaker Story

The fundamental picture has deteriorated sharply. When Evotec published its final first-half figures about a week ago, it confirmed the guidance cut it had already signaled in July. Second-quarter revenue fell 16.2 percent to €143.5 million, while adjusted EBITDA came in at minus €20.8 million. For the first half as a whole, revenue declined 19.2 percent to €300.1 million, with adjusted EBITDA at minus €42.7 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

The full-year outlook now points to revenue of €570 million to €610 million — a far cry from the €700 million to €780 million originally targeted. On adjusted EBITDA, management has swung from a projected breakeven to an expected loss of €70 million to €105 million. That guidance reduction continues to weigh on the stock, which has shed 41 percent since the start of the year. The market’s reaction to the confirmation of those figures was a 2.7 percent decline on the week.

Not every segment is struggling. Revenue in the Discovery, Preclinical & Translational Development (D&PD) unit grew more than 28 percent year over year in the first half, which Evotec attributes to improved customer engagement and stronger commercial execution. It is a bright spot in an otherwise downbeat set of results.

Cost Cuts and a Stock in No Man’s Land

Alongside the weaker revenue trajectory, Evotec is pushing ahead with its Horizon cost-saving program. Management says the transformation is on track, with initial savings already realized. Of the goal to save €75 million annually by the end of 2027, the company expects to achieve 20 to 30 percent of that target in the current year alone.

For investors, the picture remains muddled. The stock recently traded at €3.27, barely above the 52-week low of €3.14 set on September 2. The gap to the year’s high of €7.75, reached on November 5, 2025, stands at roughly 58 percent — a measure of how far the shares have fallen. Just two weeks before the Plectonic announcement, the stock had marked a new ten-year low.

Technically, the shares sit with an RSI of 38.5, in neutral to slightly oversold territory, and remain far below their 200-day average of €4.95. The medium-term downtrend, in other words, is still very much in command — even as the company’s restructuring efforts and partnership pipeline suggest a turnaround story that has yet to convince the market.
