A significant $5 billion investment from Nvidia underscores the serious commitment both tech giants are making toward their shared focus on artificial intelligence hardware. The depth of this collaboration, which extends far beyond a conventional supplier relationship, will be on display next week when Intel presents at Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference (GTC).

Product Integration and Market Expansion

The alliance is centered on two key product initiatives. The first involves custom x86 processors from Intel designed for direct integration with Nvidia’s AI infrastructure platforms. The second encompasses System-on-Chips for PCs that pair Intel processors with Nvidia RTX GPU chiplets. These solutions target a broad spectrum of clients, from enterprise customers and hyperscalers to end consumers.

Concurrently, Intel is advancing its own portfolio. The company recently introduced the Core Ultra 200S Plus for desktop gaming and the Core Series 2 for industrial edge applications at Embedded World 2026, aiming to solidify its position across multiple growth markets simultaneously. Intel’s business in custom AI chips has recently surpassed an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Intel?

Challenges and Turnaround Strategy

Despite the positive developments, the company faces headwinds. A shareholder lawsuit alleges that Intel’s board improperly granted the U.S. government an equity stake of approximately 10% last year, valued at around $11 billion. Macroeconomic pressures, including rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions, have also recently weighed on technology-heavy equities.

Intel’s share price, having more than doubled since its low in April 2025, is currently trading just above its 50-day moving average. CEO Lip-Bu Tan outlined his turnaround strategy at the SIEPR Economic Summit, which includes the ramp-up of Panther Lake chips on the 18A process node. Next week’s GTC presentation is expected to provide a clear indicator of the technical progress achieved in the integration with Nvidia.
