Global alternative asset manager TPG is actively pursuing major acquisitions across multiple sectors, demonstrating its aggressive growth strategy. The firm is currently engaged in advanced discussions alongside Blackstone to acquire medical technology corporation Hologic—a potential transaction valued at over $16 billion that would rank among the year’s largest deals.
Strategic Expansion Through Targeted Acquisitions
While the Hologic negotiations represent a massive potential play in the healthcare sector, TPG continues to execute smaller but significant transactions. Just last week, the firm announced its $600 million acquisition of GE Vernova’s Proficy® Manufacturing Software Business. This industrial software unit serves more than 20,000 customers globally and is expected to operate as a standalone entity under TPG Capital by the first half of 2026.
The renewed takeover talks with Hologic, first rumored in May, have entered a more serious phase with due diligence procedures now underway according to Bloomberg reports. Market reaction was immediately positive, sending Hologic shares climbing 7.6% on the news. Despite this progress, completion of the acquisition remains uncertain. Should the deal ultimately succeed, it would represent one of the most substantial healthcare sector transactions of the year.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TPG?
Diversified Investment Approach Across Sectors
TPG’s recent activities reveal a multifaceted investment strategy that extends beyond major mergers and acquisitions. The firm’s impact investing arm, the Rise Fund, recently co-led a $157 million Series B funding round for Saudi Arabian fintech company HALA. This follows TPG’s participation in a $290 million financing round for insurance technology provider Earnix.
With $261 billion in assets under management, TPG continues to demonstrate its capacity to identify and pursue growth opportunities across diverse market segments. The coming weeks will determine whether the firm’s ambitious play for Hologic succeeds and how markets will respond to this expansion strategy.
