Almonty Secures Strategic Foothold in US Critical Minerals Market

Almonty Industries has established its first operational presence in the United States through the acquisition of the Gentung Browns Lake tungsten project in Montana. Company CEO Lewis Black described the move as a strategic entry into what he terms the “world’s most strategically important tungsten market.”

Addressing Critical Supply Chain Vulnerabilities

The timing of this acquisition coincides with significant supply pressures facing the U.S. defense sector. Chinese export restrictions and production quotas have created substantial tungsten shortages, directly impacting defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing industries. The Gentung Browns Lake project directly addresses these supply chain vulnerabilities by establishing domestic production capabilities.

The project’s strategic location offers substantial infrastructure advantages, including road access, proximity to power sources, secured water rights, and an existing mill site. These factors collectively support the company’s ambitious target to commence production in the second half of 2026.

Project Specifications and Operational Profile

The Montana project brings considerable resources to Almonty’s asset portfolio:

  • Total Mineral Resources: 7.53 million tonnes grading 0.315% WO₃
  • Planned Annual Production: Approximately 140,000 metric tonne units
  • Tungsten Recovery Rate: Exceeding 90%
  • Mining Method: Underground room-and-pillar development

This acquisition solidifies Almonty’s position as a leading Western tungsten supplier for critical U.S. industries that depend on reliable access to this strategic metal.

Global Operations and Market Positioning

“By entering the United States, we’re expanding into the world’s most strategically important tungsten market,” stated CEO Black, noting that this market is actively rebuilding domestic supply chains and reducing dependence on Chinese sources.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Almonty?

The Montana acquisition complements Almonty’s existing global operations:

  • Sangdong Mine (South Korea): Nearing completion
  • Panasqueira Mine (Portugal): Operating at stable production levels
  • Spanish Projects: Demonstrating renewed growth potential

Analyst Confidence and Price Targets

Market analysts have responded positively to Almonty’s strategic moves. D.A. Davidson recently reaffirmed its buy recommendation for Almonty with a $12 price target, citing improved tungsten market conditions and Chinese export restrictions as key growth drivers.

The MarketBeat consensus price target stands at $9.83, indicating significant upside potential from current trading levels. The analyst community widely recognizes Almonty’s unique positioning within the global tungsten supply chain.

Geopolitical Context and Strategic Importance

Global tungsten supply faces increasing constraints due to geopolitical tensions and Chinese production limitations. Almonty’s Montana acquisition aligns with U.S. government initiatives aimed at strengthening critical mineral independence.

The domestic location eliminates international shipping complexities and provides supply chain security for U.S.-based tungsten consumers. This positioning becomes increasingly valuable as defense contractors actively seek reliable non-Chinese tungsten sources.

The acquisition establishes Almonty as a key player in rebuilding American tungsten production capacity—a strategic position that serves both national security interests and shareholder value creation.
