Metallium’s Flash Joule Heating Platform Shows Its Range — But the Market Keeps Looking at the Chart

The disconnect between operational progress and share price performance at Metallium is becoming harder to ignore. On Thursday, the stock traded at €0.2526, down 13%, even as the company unveiled test results that dramatically broaden the potential applications of its Flash Joule Heating (FJH) technology.

The share’s slide extends a painful stretch for investors. The stock now sits 36% below its 200-day moving average, underscoring a persistent downtrend since the start of the year. The reaction stands in sharp contrast to the company’s recent operational cadence, which has delivered a steady stream of commercial and technical milestones.

Beyond E-Waste: A Platform Play Takes Shape

The latest test data, released yesterday, demonstrate that FJH can selectively recover and concentrate strategic metals from a far wider range of feedstocks than the electronic waste streams that have been the technology’s primary focus to date.

The numbers are striking across multiple industrial sectors. In unprocessed rare earth ores containing roughly 12% TREO, Metallium produced a mixed rare earth chloride with purity exceeding 83% by weight, achieving a more than fourfold enrichment of neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr). Processing waste from zinc smelting delivered a 280-fold enrichment of germanium, while semiconductor waste yielded a 240-fold factor and defense-sector residues showed a 35-fold increase. Even in a single, unoptimized cycle, spent catalysts yielded a platinum group metal product with purity above 60%.

The technology also proved effective on red mud, the problematic bauxite residue. Metallium reported removing approximately 99% of iron and 94% of silicon while retaining roughly 95% of the aluminum content and concentrating gallium in the process.

These results validate the company’s strategy of positioning FJH not merely as an e-waste solution but as a universal platform for processing critical minerals across the mining and recycling value chain.

Commercial Foundations Take Hold

The commercial side is advancing in parallel. Metallium has signed binding supply agreements for 4,000 tonnes of circuit board feedstock per year, securing half of the 8,000-tonne capacity planned for the first phase of its Texas facility. The company completed a continuous 12-hour commercial-scale test run at the site in early August, a milestone widely seen as critical validation of the core systems before scaling to multiple reactors.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Metallium?

First product sales from circuit board processing are expected in the first half of 2027, with the initial Texas plant’s startup approaching.

The company’s first commercial technology services agreement, signed August 3 with Environmental Clean Technologies (ECT), adds another revenue dimension. The 12-month deal focuses on MXene production at ECT’s Gator Point site in Texas — a material class with promising industrial applications that could extend Metallium’s portfolio beyond metal recovery. Metallium receives a $500,000 upfront payment plus quarterly fees of $225,000 for technical support and facility use, bringing total cash compensation to up to $1.4 million in the first year. The agreement also includes 20 million ECT options with an exercise price of $0.18.

Balance Sheet and Leadership Back the Ambition

The financial runway remains solid. Metallium held approximately A$65 million in cash as of June 30, providing cover for expansion steps and the planned commissioning of specialized reactors in the third quarter.

Management has also strengthened its bench. Josh Hawes and Kellie Benda joined the board as independent non-executive directors on Monday, while Matthew Trauber took on the role of CFO for US operations in Houston. Ibrahim Ayoub was promoted to Chief Operating Officer, tasked with steering the commercialization of the FJH platform.

The company continues to push toward a Nasdaq uplisting, with PCAOB-standard audit work reportedly already underway.

The Market’s Calculus

The pre-market reading of €0.2538 — down 12% — tells a more cautious story than the week’s numbers might suggest. Over the past seven days, the stock has actually gained 40%, making Thursday’s pullback a partial retracement of a sharp recent run rather than a fresh breakdown.

Still, the persistent gap between operational headlines and the share price trajectory raises a question: whether the expansion into additional strategic metals can shift market sentiment, or whether investors will hold out for visible revenue and production milestones. The answer likely hinges on construction progress at the Texas facility and the next steps toward the Nasdaq listing — with the 2027 production start serving as the pivotal marker for monetizing the FJH platform.
